ArtBook

ArtBook

The ArtBook is our flagship album and the most popular choice amongst discerning photographers. It’s known worldwide for its enduring beauty, classic simplicity and luxury materials.

As their name implies, ArtBooks feature fine art papers with giclée printing using archival pigment inks. Our advanced inkjet printers are the same printers used to reproduce prints and canvases for museums. This means that with normal use and storage, your album will be resistant to ageing and will remain colorfast over decades. Each spread is individually printed, inspected, creased and hand-bound. We believe that this kind of effort and the keen eyes of dedicated bookbinding artisans are necessary to make books of such outstanding beauty and craftsmanship. Before you order, we highly recommend ordering test prints.

Our ArtBooks are hand-made by some of the finest album artisans in the world and are available in a traditional hardcover layflat style, as well as a special "Journal" style with a soft leather wrap-around cover.

Page thickness in ArtBooks - please see the video here

Pages in ArtBooks are constructed using special substrates which give a perfect bond, semi flex appearance and are completely archival (PH 7.5).
Substrates make the pages less vulnerable to warping when exposed to high humidity (>60% Relative Humidity). Page thickness is around 1mm per page.
In the video above we demonstrate how lovely semi-flexible the pages are. Pages can be bent using slight force but will come back to the original state.
Cotton Rag/Bamboo pages are slightly stiffer because of the thicker paper stock.

What are these white sheets between artbook pages?

You may notice that your book comes with a little bit extra - free paper! These sheets of paper are used in the production process to protect the pages from ink transfer whilst we are pressing and trimming. They also help keep your album fresh and beautiful during the shipping process. It is mandatory to keep separators during the transportation of the package. The parcel might be carried under heavy objects that will put pressure on the pages. We recommend that you keep acid-free separators even after you received your album. That is especially important for albums with dark photographs, printed on matte and cotton rag paper.

IMPORTANT DESIGN NOTES: Please keep your designs clean and simple with white backgrounds preferably. It is best to inset images about an inch from the edge of the page. Avoid images with heavy use of deep blacks. Please keep images off the crease as with time the ink on the crease might be prone to cracking. We recommend that you avoid full bleed spreads. We offer these insights into what will give you the best results with these delicate papers and printing process. Due to the nature of pigments being applied to the surface of fibrous papers (especially cotton), there is always the possibility of tiny flakes, cracks, as well as transfer, so we provide the knowledge so that you can make your own judgements.
